Bareboating the British Virgin Islands - June, 2002
Another great lunch at Cow Wreck - a cheeseburger and a shellfish sandwich. Shellfish here is not a crustacean. Instead, it is a trunkfish. The locals call it a "shellfish" because the trunkfish, which is a member of the boxfish family, has scales that are fused together to form a solid shell which covers almost the entire body, thus it "lives in a shell". They boil the fish and pick out the meat, which has a consistency and flavor much like crabmeat. It is very delicious, and they make a great sandwich out of it at Cow Wreck Beach. | |
