A larger model of the Kodak Camera was introduced in October of 1889. It became obvious that the simple "Kodak" name would no longer suffice, so the original size Kodak was renamed the No. 1, and the new model became the No. 2. In addition to the larger size, the No. 2 also had a significant improvement over the design of the No. 1 - the addition of a reflex viewfinder, which was a major technical innovation. The front of the camera had to opened, as shown at the right, to change the lens aperture. The camera had to be returned to the Kodak factory for processing and reloading when the owner finished the 60- or 100-exposure roll of film. The film used for the No. 2 did not have paper backing, so the camera had to loaded in a darkroom. |
