A "technical" version of the Brownie
Starflash. This is a special-purpose camera made for medical and dental close-up work.
It differs from the Starflash in that it has a dull-finished flash reflector, which gives
much better flash diffusion at close range. The flash is covered with a heavy flash guard,
which also incorporates a prism over the viewfinder window to correct for parallax. Two close-up lenses are part of the StarTech kit. The two diaphragm stops (f/27 and f/64) are color-coded with the close-up lenses for proper exposure at two distance ranges. The tiny diaphragm openings are possible since the subject is extremely brightly lit because of the close proximity of the flash. These small diaphragm openings provide a relatively great depth of field, providing reasonably sharp "macro" photography with a simple fixed-focus lens. The green lens is for use with the f/27 opening at 10 to 16 inches from the subject, and the red lens allows photography with the f/64 opening at 4 to 8 inches from the subject. |
